Latest ship simulation tech comes to India

There is some good news for companies that have chalked out plans to development ports and terminals in Gujarat. They will now be able to conduct the mandatory ship simulation and manoeuvring studies in Ahmedabad or Mumbai, instead of going to foreign countries.

BMT Consultants India — part of UK-based port management and consultancy group — has started its industry-standard simulator service PC Rembrandt in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. This would translate into substantial savings from money that companies spend on conducting simulation studies abroad, mostly in the UK or The Netherlands.

“Companies can save nearly 40 per cent of cost involved in carrying out simulation studies now that they can do it here itself,” Suren Vakil, managing director, BMT Consultants India, told TOI.

PC Rembrandt ship simulator is regarded as the most widely used simulator in the world and has the flexibility of being used on a laptop whilst also being able to provide a full bridge simulation with the requisite hardware. The simulator has also previously been used from BMT’s overseas offices to simulate LNG vessels at Dahej and Hazira.

“Many of our clients over the past couple of years have had to travel to UK and Singapore to be able to view simulation runs for Indian ports,” Vakil added.
