Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to survey 13 lakh properties

After a gap of four years, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) would engage in one of the largest door-to-door survey of close to 13 lakh property units in the city. The survey and assessment would give AMC’s tax department an idea of any structural and useage changes of the occupier.

The survey details would be used to draw a fresh list for changes in the various factors that form part of the tax formula , based on which tax is calculated for every individual in the city.

To start with, the AMC commissioner vide a notification has called in 244 officers from various departments of the AMC for the purpose on Monday . The officers would be first trained into carrying out assessment of individual houses and to note any changes in any given structure of the property units.

“Properties would be assessed on various factors like age of property, location, usage, area of the property. The survey would give us an indepth assessment as to how many residential properties were put to commercial use, how many houses have tenants and whether there are changes in the structure of the properties. Besides this, anomalies like one property having two tax identification numbers too can be corrected ,” says a senior official of the tax department.

As far as tax collection is concerned , AMC has collected Rs 178 crore from April 1 to Tuesday . The west zone which consists of the maximum number of commercial units have collected Rs 68.4 crore. The new west zone has collected Rs 29 crore while central zone collected Rs 25 crore, followed by south zone with Rs 22 crore and north zone with Rs 17 crore and east zone, Rs 15 crore.
