Ahemdabad

Its Raining in Ahmedabad, Wet set and eat

After the dust and heat, in the broad and fiery street, in the narrow lane, the rain seems soothing… the thought of monsoon brings to mind the graceful dancing of peacocks, the call of the koel, the little streams on the road with their tiny little paper-boats and giggling children getting together to play in the rain, splash in the puddles and follow their paperboats . It brings the smell of fresh earth and suddenly you notice the beauty of nature and all the greenery around you. But, along with all this, also comes the thought of yummy food. Amdavadis are essentially known for their love for food.

What better time to freak out on the sizzling fast-food available on the streets than monsoon? Eating out in such an amazing weather can definitely boost one’s mood after a tough day at work. Try stopping by at IIM where the most delicious ‘Indian-Chinese’ is available from the hawkers outside the main gate. Not to mention the best way to resolve a lover’s tiff- a cup of hot tea near Nirma Circle or a plate of sizzling dalwadas at Ambica near H L College or at Gota Circle.Couple this with the pitter-patter of raindrops around you and you’re all set for romance. For those who think that pani-puri is unhygienic in this season, try the ragda-puri available at Law Garden. And, if you have been feeling blue and lonely, give a buzz to your pals and pop around to Jai Bhavani on C G Road or 100ft Rd for some hot buttery vada-pav or the masala anda-bhurji near NID. Matar Puri, Chana Bhatura or Bedmi(udad ki Kachori) with alu at Gwalia or Bikanerwala is just a blessing in disguise. For the traditional at heart, there’s always the hot corn which is now available both in the boiled and roasted variety at Makai Masti near Ocean’s Park at Nehrunagar. The bhajia fans can relish the delicacy at the ever-famous Raipur Bhajia, which has now got its new branch at Nehrunagar.

For those who freak out on fresh drinks and ice-creams, try the stuff available at Derani-Jethani near stadium, or icy golas at Bhavgir near Suvidha Chappal Bazaar at Paldi. Lately, Shambu’s coffee bar, with its branches spread across the city, is doing a booming business in fresh juices, hot and cold coffee, and their famous cold cocoa. A lesser-known place is Coconut Corner near Azad Society which offers fresh coconut water throughout the year; their specialty being chilled coconut water. Of course, nothing can beat the sugarcane juice available at University.

And hot tea at any tea stall for just Rs 2/- cannot be missed

You must have heard the famous Gujarati saying aav re varsad, dhebariyo parsad, uni uni rotli ne karela nu shak.
