Devotees of Asaram go on rampage in Ahmedabad

Largescale violence erupted in several parts of Ahmedabad after religious preacher Asaram Bapu’s devotees, who had gathered to celebrate Guru Purnima at his ashram at Motera, attacked the media for giving widespread coverage to the death of two Gurukul boys under mysterious circumstances.

The police watched helplessly as ashram devotees hit journalists with clubs and damaged television crews’ equipment and vehicles. Some of the mediapersons were badly beaten up and the injured among them were shifted to a hospital.

With violence showing no sign of let, police lobbed teargas shells and fired in the air to disperse the mobs. The two students, Dipesh Vaghela, 10, and Abhishek Vaghela, 11, went missing on the evening of July 3 from the ashram gurukul
