IIT Gujarat to Become Operational From Coming Academic Year
he eighth Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.) will start functioning in Gujarat from the upcoming academic year.
The premier institute will provide a five-year Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) degree program with 40 seats each in three branches of engineering—mechanical, chemical and electrical.
The I.I.T. Gujarat will initially be located in Vishwakarma Government Engineering College campus at Chandkheda in Gandhinagar district.
Later, it will be shifted to a another site, said state government’s Spokesperson and Health minister Jaynarayan Vyas.
The state government has already allotted land for the I.I.T. Gujarat in Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad Knowledge Corridor.
Last year, I.I.T. Mumbai opened an extension centre here which provides courses on developing skills in engineering education.
The seven existing I.I.Ts are located at Kharagpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, Delhi, Guwahati and Roorkee.
