Gujarat gets IIT
Gujarat will have an Indian Institute of Technology from the coming academic year, government spokesman Jaynarayan Vyas said here on Wednesday.
An IIT branch with 120 seats would become functional from June. To begin with, it would offer B.Tech courses in mechanical, chemical and electrical engineering, each with 40 seats.
Mr. Vyas said land would be allotted for setting up the IIT in the “Knowledge Corridor” being developed by the State government between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. However, it would start functioning at the Vishwakarma Engineering College at Chandkheda on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
